The Duck and the Ibis

I was attending a meeting yesterday and I had to step outside that meeting for a moment to call into a short and mandatory telephonic meeting regarding a personnel change.  Before I left the main meeting I whispered to my friend that’s what I was leaving to go do.  She said, “I already know what he is going to say.”  I didn’t ask her to elaborate even though I knew it concerned her, because she would need a lot of time to tell me the details and we were in that main meeting.  She couldn’t leave the main meeting just then due to the item being discussed.   I went outside and found a bench to sit on next to a little plot of grass.  There in the grass was a Duck and an Ibis.    I dialed into the telephonic meeting.  There were about 20 people on the call and we all greeted each other cheerfully.  Eventually the man got on the phone and announced that another woman I know, but as an acquaintance, had been hired to be the manager of our Unit.  Everybody on the phone seemed to pause for a moment mulling this news over.  I know several people who had applied for this position, including my friend back in the Main meeting.  Finally I heard one person say on the phone, “well, she is someone we all know.”  We all could agree to that.  The conversation dwindled and after a moment or two, I hung up and returned to the main meeting and sat beside my friend.  I wrote the name of the woman who gotten the job she wanted, on a piece of paper and showed it to her.  I also wrote to my friend that I was sorry.  I knew she really wanted the job, and, I believe she was really qualified for it, too.

(When the job first came open a while ago, my manager encouraged me to apply for it.  I was going to, but got distracted and missed it being posted.)

I was thinking that maybe one of the birds might represent my Friend who did not get the job, and the other bird would represent my Acquaintance who did get the job (and a big promotion,) and who is now my boss.

I’m going to have to wait until the Acquaintance starts this new job, and return to this post at a later time.
